Preview: New Report Ranks Voter Turnout in All 50 States

As the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, the new report “America Goes to the Polls 2014” ranks voter turnout in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia and looks at major factors underlying voter participation. This is the only report using final data certified by state election offices.

The report is set to be released Thursday.

Here’s what to expect:

WHEN: REPORT RELEASE DATE – THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 2015
WHO: Nonprofit VOTE partners with America’s nonprofits to help the people they serve participate and vote. We are the largest source of nonpartisan resources to help nonprofits integrate voter engagement into their ongoing activities and services.

REPORT HIGHLIGHTS: 
  • Only 36.6 percent of eligible citizens voted in the 2014 mid-term elections, the lowest in a midterm since World War II. Turnout varied widely across states by as much as 30 percentage points.
  • The report cites specific strategies that have or could significantly increase voter participation rates.
