As the nation celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, the new report “America Goes to the Polls 2014” ranks voter turnout in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia and looks at major factors underlying voter participation. This is the only report using final data certified by state election offices.
The report is set to be released Thursday.
Here’s what to expect:
- Full release to be sent under embargo on Wednesday, March 11, 2015
- Report will be publically available for download beginning Thursday morning, March 12, at http://www.nonprofitvote.org/americagoestothepolls2014
- Only 36.6 percent of eligible citizens voted in the 2014 mid-term elections, the lowest in a midterm since World War II. Turnout varied widely across states by as much as 30 percentage points.
